A Little Bit of History
It is not known for sure if this badge was for the city of Pecos (Reeves County established 1883) or the county of Pecos. Usually, the law for the counties were U.S. Marshals and cities were simply Marshals. With this in mind, this badge probably represents the Marshal for the town of Pecos. Pecos came into being sometime around 1873. It originated on the East side of the Pecos River as a camp for the many cattle drives and wagon trains that passed through the area. In the 1880's the town moved to the West side of the river. In the 1890's the town developed a reputation for violence after several gunfights occured. |
