A Little Bit of History
The Union Pacific Railroad was incorporated on July 1, 1862, renamed the Union Pacific Railway on January 24, 1880, with its dominant stockholder being Jay Gould, reverting to the original name, Union Pacific Railroad July 1, 1897. Outlaws such as as the Youngers, James Gang, the Daltons, Butch Cassidy and the Wild Bunch added to the troubling times for the railroad. Due to law enforcement being far and few between, the Union Pacific, like so many other railroads, established its on police agency. Their task was to protect the thousands of miles of track, passangers and freight from these outlaws.
